BRAVE-WOW takes gender-based violence at work to the Portuguese organisational behaviour community

The Portuguese partners of BRAVE-WOW brought the project to one of the country’s main gatherings of organisational behaviour and human resources researchers, with five presentations at the Diálogos em Comportamento Organizacional II conference, held on 11 and 12 September at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra.

Now in its second edition, the conference brings together researchers, students and professionals working in organisational behaviour and human resources. Alongside the scientific programme, the event is designed to create space for informal discussion and for building collaboration between institutions.

Five presentations from the BRAVE-WOW team

The BRAVE-WOW contributions were presented by Ana Vieira, Silvia Lopes, Inês Agostinho, Margarida Farinha and Natalia Machado, in a session moderated by Leonor Pais, coordinator of the project.

Together, the five presentations covered a broad slice of the project’s work, including:

  • approaches to preventing gender-based violence and harassment in the world of work;
  • the analysis of gender-based violence and harassment as a decent work deficit;
  • the stakeholder engagement model developed within BRAVE-WOW.

Presenting this work in a national forum dedicated to organisational behaviour and human resources allowed the team to test the project’s framing with an audience of researchers and practitioners who work directly on the organisational conditions in which violence and harassment occur and are prevented.

Broader discussions at the conference

The conference also provided an opportunity for broader discussions around gender-based violence, the representation of different genders in research, and the importance of going beyond numerical representation.

Particular emphasis was placed on meaningful participation: who has a voice in research, who participates in decision-making, and what the actual role of different groups is in shaping research and its outcomes.

An open invitation to the Community of Practice

The BRAVE-WOW Community of Practice was also presented during the event, with an open invitation extended to all participants to join. The Community of Practice is a space for researchers, practitioners, employers, worker representatives and policymakers to share experience and shape practical responses to gender-based violence and harassment at work.
