Addressing Violence Against Healthcare Workers in Slovenia

Recently, another violent incident took place at Ptuj Health Center, where a female doctor was physically attacked while performing her duties. Incidents like this remind us of the urgent need to better protect those who dedicate their lives to caring for others.

Healthcare workers often carry the weight of systemic challenges while being the first line of contact with patients and families. Violence not only harms the professional involved, but also undermines trust between patients and caregivers, and creates stressful situations for everyone present.

In Slovenia, the Medical Chamber, together with the Chambers of Nursing and Midwifery and Pharmacy, has already called for stronger legal protection of healthcare workers. While this proposal has not yet been adopted, the discussion must continue.

Violence is never the answer. Systemic improvements, dialogue, and mutual respect are the way forward to ensure safe and dignified healthcare environments.
