From dialogue to action: BRAVE-WOW’s Community of Practice collaborates on three key topics

The BRAVE-WOW Community of Practice (CoP) is moving from strength to strength. Since its launch, our members have been collaborating closely to address gender-based violence and harassment across Europe. We are pleased to share the latest progress from our specialised groups as they begin developing their first tangible resources.

CoP Working Groups Progress Update

Within the CoP, the Working Groups have made good progress and are now moving towards the development of their first outputs.

The WG1 – Engaging men, boys & bystanders in preventing and combating GBV – has been actively working on the development of its first info sheet, with a particular focus on awareness raising, prevention, and strategies for the meaningful engagement and co-design of initiatives involving men and boys in the prevention of gender-based violence (GBV). The group has made good progress in defining the key topics. Its info sheet will provide practical guidance and promote inclusive approaches to prevention.

The WG2 – Communication approaches to GBV across the media – has been the most active working group, engaging in rich discussions on a range of topics, including communication styles across different media, the opportunities and risks associated with AI-generated content, and communication about GBV in workplace settings. Following a productive brainstorming session, members agreed to focus their first info sheet on the communication and representation of GBV across different media and platforms, paying particular attention to the narratives, framing, and language used to describe the issue. The next step will be the development of a draft Table of Contents to guide the work.

The WG3 – Cultural & social contexts and their impact on legal frameworks for GBV – explores the influence of social and cultural norms on perceptions of gender-based violence, highlighting the important role of language and terminology in shaping understanding of the issue. Discussions also addressed the challenge of balancing respect for cultural diversity with the need to challenge harmful practices and stereotypes, while promoting a culture grounded in respect, equality, and inclusion. Building on these discussions, the group will now prepare a draft Table of Contents for its upcoming info sheet.
