Guidelines on preventing violence against community nurses in Slovenia

The Working Group for Non-Violence in Nursing and Midwifery, together with experts in community nursing, has completed the multi-professional work required to prepare the Guidelines on Preventing Violence Against Community Nurses in Slovenia.

This document represents an important milestone. In recent years, cases of physical, sexual, verbal and psychological violence against community nurses by patients and their relatives have been increasing. The fact that nurses work alone in patients’ homes often makes their tasks more difficult and sometimes unsafe.

Before publication, the Guidelines will be presented and discussed at a dedicated round table with experts and representatives from the Ministry of Health, the Medical Chamber of Slovenia, the Association of Centres for Social Work, the Police, the National Institute of Public Health, employers in the health sector, and the Nurses and Midwives Association of Slovenia. The conclusions and recommendations emerging from this round table will be integrated into the final version of the Guidelines.

Once finalised, the Guidelines will be disseminated to all community nursing centres across Slovenia in the coming weeks.

The event will take place on 28 November 2025 during a conference organised by the Nurses and Midwives Association of Slovenia to mark the 25th anniversary of the Working Group for Non-Violence in Nursing and Midwifery.

All Slovenian BRAVE-WOW partners have confirmed their participation, creating valuable opportunities for further planning of BRAVE-WOW activities in 2026.
