Portugal Advances Efforts to Tackle Workplace Gender-Based Violence

Partners BRAVE – WOW – Gender-based violence (GBV) and harassment at work are often undetected or under-reported.

CITE’s participation in the BRAVE-WOW Project is essential to promote the prevention and combat of workplace violence and harassment in healthcare organisations. It also promotes knowledge about workplace harassment and legislation in Portugal.

Commission for Equality in Labour and Employment (CITE) is responsible for promoting equality and preventing discrimination in the workplace. This includes enforcing equality laws, providing guidance to employers, and supporting individuals facing discrimination. As a full partner in this project on gender-based violence, its responsibilities extend to identifying workplace policies that may contribute to such violence and advocating for necessary changes.

The results of this project are expected to drive significant policy changes, leading to the creation of safer and more inclusive workplaces. By addressing the root causes of gender-based violence and promoting best practices, CITE can foster a culture of respect and equality, ensuring that all employees can work without fear of harassment or discrimination. Their involvement highlights the importance of addressing intersectional issues in the fight against workplace inequalities.

CITE reaffirms its commitment to promoting training programs and awareness campaigns on workplace harassment, aimed at employers and their employees, encouraging a culture of respect, decent work, safety, equality, and non-discrimination, with the goal of creating an environment free of violence and non-discrimination between women and men.
