With a quarter-century of experience, Slovenia’s Working Group on Non-Violence in Nursing and Midwifery is stepping up efforts to combat gender-based violence (GBV) against community nurses, particularly during home visits.
In 2024–2025, the group is monitoring and responding to incidents of GBV in community nursing, reviewing recent cases and identifying gender-related risk factors. A nationwide research initiative is underway to capture both reported and unreported cases, highlighting systemic vulnerabilities and gender-specific threats.
In partnership with stakeholders, the group is drafting Slovenia’s first Protocol for Preventing Violence Against Community Nurses. This document will provide clear guidelines, preventive strategies, and emergency response procedures for professionals in the field.
The group is also working with national broadcasters, including RTV Slovenia, to raise public awareness. Media interviews, public statements, and educational campaigns aim to change public perceptions and ensure stronger protections for health workers.
Alongside these efforts, the group is driving the dissemination of the Handbook for Dealing with Violence in Health Institutions across Slovenia. The handbook offers healthcare professionals practical guidance to prevent and respond to workplace violence, while helping institutions foster a culture of safety, support, and non-violence in nursing and midwifery.
Through research, advocacy, and practical action, the Working Group continues its mission to protect healthcare workers and strengthen a zero-tolerance approach to violence in Slovenia’s health sector.
