Spain is taking important steps to combat gender-based violence (GBV), combining legal reforms with technological innovation to make workplaces safer and more inclusive. In September 2025, the country introduced legislation that broadens the legal definition of GBV to include indirect forms of violence, recognising harm caused through those close to victims. This legal milestone reflects Spain’s strong commitment to tackling all forms of violence and aligns with European initiatives to prevent harassment at work.
Beyond legislation, technology is playing a key role. As part of the BRAVE-WOW project, CTIC is developing artificial intelligence tools that analyse anonymised workplace communications and social data in multiple languages. Using natural language processing, these tools can detect emotional and linguistic patterns that may signal early stages of harassment or abuse. By providing organisations with timely insights, AI supports proactive intervention and helps create safer work environments.
Importantly, BRAVE-WOW emphasises ethical AI practices, ensuring privacy and consent while delivering social impact. Combining technology with cultural and organisational change, Spain is moving toward workplaces where respect, equality, and wellbeing are central values.
These efforts show how legal action, research, and innovation can work together to prevent and respond to gender-based violence. By supporting projects like BRAVE-WOW, Spain contributes to a broader European vision where workplaces are not only safe but also actively promote equality, inclusion, and dignity for all.
