Tackling GBV in BRAVE-WOW: The role of focus groups

To ensure that the actions proposed effectively address the real manifestations of gender-based violence (GBV) in the healthcare workplaces and the specific needs of those who experience it, the BRAVE WOW project includes dedicated moments for consultation and dialogue with key stakeholders. Within this framework, EnEA will lead the organization of focus groups and roundtables in each partner country, starting November 2025.

These sessions are intended to explore in depth the complex dynamics of GBV in the healthcare work settings. Focus groups will examine issues such as the absence or inadequate enforcement of policies designed to prevent GBV, as well as the technical, practical, psychological, and cultural factors that contribute to its underreporting. In addition, participants will reflect on existing mechanisms and tools aimed at preventing and addressing GBV in all its expressions.

The focus groups and roundtables will also serve as a valuable opportunity to gather feedback on the initial draft of the Gender-based violence at work questionnaire (GBVW_Q), helping to ensure that it captures all relevant dimensions of the phenomenon. Moreover, once the questionnaire has been administered, these sessions will provide a space to discuss the findings, contextualize the data, and deepen the understanding of the challenges identified, supporting the development of targeted interventions that respond directly to the needs and gaps revealed.

Beyond their analytical function, these meetings will foster meaningful dialogue among stakeholders, encouraging the exchange of experiences, insights, and best practices. In conclusion, they will help ensure that the project remains firmly rooted in the lived realities of those it aims to support, and that its outcomes are both relevant and actionable.
